A Few Favorite Things

It is crazy to think we have already been in San Antonio for a month. Admist packing, we decided to take a few more pictures with Adam and some of his favorite things.

Adam loved this fountain that was right outside our building. We always had to make a stop to look at the water before going out on our errands. Adam also liked to look at it when we returned from our errands. As you may guess, the fountain was a frequent stop. :) It was especially exciting when the birds came to play in the water. Adam would laugh and point at all of the birds.

Adam also had fun looking at the colorful benches around our building. He would go from one bench to the next when we went for walks. After it rained, Adam would have even more fun playing and splashing in the water that puddled on them.

And now for Adam's very favorite thing about staying in Texas - the hotel key!!! This was by far Adam's favorite toy. He insisted on always being the one to unlock the door. After he opened the door, he loved to carry the key around the apartment. He found every possible crack in our apartment where he could slide the card up and down to "unlock" things.

Playgroup

Twice a week, Adam went to a toddler playgroup on base. He spent most of his time in the pretend kitchen. He loved to open and close the cupboards, stir with the wooden spoon, and he even surprised Mommy one day when he set the table! Coming in second place for things Adam loved to do while there was play in the red tunnel. Actually, it was rare for him to climb through it. He preferred banging on it, playing peek-a-boo through it, and climbing up and down the stairs that led up to it.

Miniature Golf

When we were in San Antonio two years ago, we found a really fun miniature golf course. We went back this time with Adam. He had fun watching the waterfalls and other people. We had lots of fun and Paul, of course, won with a final score of two under par.

The Riverwalk

After Paul finished work, we headed to the famous Riverwalk.

Our main reason for going to the Riverwalk was a slice of cheesecake. That's right, we were told the famous Kangaroo Court cheesecake was still available at the "Original Mexican Restaurant" on the Riverwalk. Adam wasn't quite as excited for the treat as Mommy. In fact, he thought his Teddy Grahams were better. However, Mommy and Daddy thought the cheesecake was a very good treat.

Wilford Hall Medical Center

This is the hospital on base where Paul is doing his pediatric rotations. (And yes, this is what he wears to work each day). He had two weeks of Infectious Disease and is now completing two weeks of GI. The hospital is a five minute walk from our apartment, which has been very convenient.

Don't you think this should be the new poster for the military? I think it would bring in lots of recruits.

Jr. Lieutenant Morrison

Adam loves to wear Daddy's hat when he comes home from work. He also thinks it's fun to check Daddy's lunch sack for any leftover treats.

Sea World!

Like the hair? Adam thought it was more important to help pack the diaper bag than to get his hair brushed after we finished putting sunscreen on him.

We planned our day around the various animal feeding times and shows. Our first stop was the Lorikeet feeding. We thought Adam would have fun since he is always fascinated with birds.

The birds were pretty noisy, though, so Adam was a bit scared at first. By the end of the feeding he was laughing and pointing at every bird he saw.

This was Paul's favorite moment during our whole day at Sea World.

After the Lorikeets, we had fun feeding the sea lions.

Feeding the dolphins is, of course, one of the biggest highlights of Sea World. And we had great success! The dolphins came really close to us and stayed long enough for us to get some pictures!

Adam's favorite part of the day was running around in the shark and tropical fish building. We think his energy must have been building up while riding in the stroller because when we put him down in the carpeted area, he went nuts. He ran everywhere! We did manage to hold him for a few seconds to get a picture, but there was no chance of getting a retake when we realized the picture was a bit blurry.

Our favorite show was the Shamu show. We saved it for the very end of our day. Adam was really tired by that point and did not seem impressed. In fact he thought cuddling in Mommy's arms was much better than watching the whales' tricks. Unlike Adam, Mommy and Daddy enjoyed it very much.

All in all, we had a very fun day!

Air Force's 60th Anniversary

In celebration of the Air Force's 60th Anniversary, the base had a carnival. (In case you are wondering, their actual anniversary is September 18th). Adam loved the prizes he won. At the duck pond, he won a magnifying glass. At the ring toss he got a giant balloon ball and at the fish pond he caught a bag of gold fish crackers. He also had fun playing with the balloon puppy he got from the clown.

Relaxation

While waiting for Daddy, Adam enjoyed trying out the chairs in the lobby of the Visiting Officers Quarters.

The Tot Lot

We went to the playground on base today. They have a special tot lot for kids under age 3. Everything was the perfect size for Adam! He especially had fun driving the pretend car and train. He also liked walking up and down the stairs that were the perfect size for his little legs.

Lunch Time

Adam was acting really cute during lunch today so I decided to take some pictures. Adam loves to fold his arms (for a few seconds anyway). We are still working on teaching him how to be quiet during prayers though. The last picture is of his attemp at puffing out his cheeks. He thinks it's hilarious when other people do it. He tries so hard himself, but ends up laughing and hasn't quite figured out how to do it.





I also tried to record some of Adam's tricks during lunch. He was a bit tired at this point, but I managed to get a few things on video. (Sorry the videos are dark, we can't adjust the lighting in the video setting on our camera).

Building Trivia

While driving in San Antonio, we came across this building. Any guess what it is? We were shocked when we learned it's an elementary school! That's right, grades preK - 5. It even has an outdoor ampitheater in back. The picture doesn't quite do it justice. The building is huge!!!

M says "mmm"

To help keep Adam entertained in Texas, we bought him a new toy. The toy has alphabet magnets that sing the letter’s sounds. It also sings the alphabet song. Adam loves the toy! Once again, he surprised us with his knowledge. After pushing the button for the letter “B” Adam repeated the “buh” sound over and over. He also repeated the “mmm” sound for the letter “M.” It seems Adam knows more about talking than he lets on.

The Start of Our Adventure

We are in San Antonio! Everything has gone really smoothly so far. Our flights worked out great. Adam was not easily entertained by his toys, but he loved the airplane window, the seat armrests, and the tray tables. We are currently staying in the TLF (Temporary Lodging Facility) on Lackland Air Force Base. We are here on a "space available" basis. As you can see by the pictures, the housing is great. We have everything we need - dishes, a pack n' play, kitchen appliances, etc. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that no one else arrives that would need our apartment.
